Pet Product News: Nature’s Earth Opens Manufacturing Plant
Nature’s Earth, the West Palm Beach, Fl.-based maker of all-natural litter, is expanding its manufacturing capacity.
The company purchased a 98,000 square foot manufacturing plant in Reform, Ala., the first production facility to be owned and operated by the company, said Jillian Balser, marketing director for Nature’s Earth.
Nature’s Earth currently markets Feline Pine litter for cats and All Pet Pine for ferrets, gerbils and hamsters, as an “environmentally friendly” alternative to clay-based litter. The products are made from Southern yellow pine and are 100 percent biodegradable.
Nature’s plans to hire 10 to 15 employees initially for the Alabama facility, Balser said. We hope to produce 25,000 tons of pellets in the first year of plant operation and up to 75,000 tons by year three, said Fred Burckbuchler, vice president of finance. This is in addition to continuing production at independently owned facilities in South Carolina, Washington and Canada.
The Alabama plant was purchased from Durbin-Durco, a division of Columbus McKinnon that manufactured load binders and chain assemblies, Balser said.
Nature's has begun construction on the facility and plans to open Oct. 1, Balser said.
